GLOBAL LEARNING FORUM
The Latin America Mega Month was more than we could have hoped it would be. We praise the Lord for all the ways we saw His hand at work.
The Mega Month started with Children of Promise leaders and key volunteers from twelve countries gathered together in San José, Costa Rica, for our 3rd annual GLF (Global Learning Forum.) In addition to five HQ staff members, there were six additional team members from the USA who were invited to invest in the gathering. Our three days together were filled with laughter, encouragement, training, fun, and worship.
We were graciously hosted at the Living Hope Church of God, where our Costa Rica program director, Bany, and her husband, Armando, are pastors. The skilled worship team from the church led us in worship each evening, and the hospitality team prepared meals for us. We stayed at a nearby hotel where one of the directors commented that she felt like a queen.
In response to the GLF, one director said, “Thank you for the teachings and for the camaraderie that we now have with leaders from other countries. We took away great lessons and great friendships.” Another leader, who has been directing Children of Promise in her home country for twenty years, commented, “We feel honored to be part of this program. We thank God for the opportunity, and we ask that He helps us do things better.” To see a highlight video of the GLF, click here.
It’s YOUR generosity that makes it possible for us to gather leaders each year for regional Global Learning Forums. Thank you for investing in those who are doing the daily work of making wholeness possible in the lives of sponsored children!
SLOTHS, CLOUD FORESTS, AND DOWNPOURS
The second part of the Latin America Mega Month was our annual Adventure Fundraising Trip. The purpose of this trip is to pair the relational aspect of visiting sponsored children with experiencing some of the amazing tourism opportunities that are available in the countries where we have programs. By intentionally charging more for this unique opportunity, participants further enable Children of Promise to carry out the
mission of making wholeness possible.
We hiked Arenal Volcano (and got caught in a downpour!), searched the rain forest and cloud forest for sloths, unusual birds, and snakes, and relaxed in a geothermal hot spring. It was wonderful, and the money raised will do so much good! Plan now to join us in Africa on our next Adventure Fundraiser during summer 2025! Sign up to receive the latest travel updates here.
CHILD INTERVIEWS
The highlight of each of our trips is getting to spend time with sponsored children. While a multi-generational group from across the USA was interviewing kids in Costa Rica, a group from the college ministry of Fairfax Church in Fairfax, VA was interviewing kids in Honduras. It’s especially meaningful when sponsors and sponsored children get to meet one another. Relatively few children ever have that opportunity, but five children in Costa Rica, Nasumi, Aaron, Bianka, Mateo, and Catalina, got to meet their sponsors on this trip!
